Bearport Publishing
Bearport Publishing believes that books with good writing and amazing photos are irresistible to kids. They also believe that having books kids want to read is one of the surest ways to foster reading achievement. These two principles guide the development of all their titles for the K–8 school and library market. With every book, they pay close attention to text length, vocabulary, and picture-text match. Their goal is to offer books that kids will enjoy reading, even if they are reluctant readers.
To this end, they offer three distinct book lines:   - Primary Nonfiction: These books for beginning readers cover a range of interesting subjects at readability levels below 3rd grade. Many of the titles include interactive features, such as Q&A formats, games, and so on. All these books feature compelling pictures and exciting design. - Narrative Nonfiction: Their narrative nonfiction titles are written at a 3rd-grade level. Each book begins with a dramatic anecdote that sets the stage for the main topic—whether it’s a natural disaster, the building of a castle, or a special animal. These titles read like well-told stories that focus on the drama and excitement of the events they recount. The main text is limited to 100 words or less per two-page spread, leaving lots of space for big, bold pictures. This feature makes our books less intimidating and more inviting to kids. - High-Interest Nonfiction: Like their narrative books, these titles also are written at an intermediate level, and they focus on topics that most kids will find interesting. However, kids can easily choose the parts of the text they want to read—on a particular dinosaur, invention, animal, etc.—without necessarily reading the whole book.
